Mr. Portland, the genesis...
In the halcyon days of the mid-1990s, when people sold their Craig's-list items in the classified section and Tom Peterson
and Scott Thomason bought as much advertising as the law allowed, there was actually some money at The Oregonian to hire graphic designers and freelance artists to add some visual interest to the paper.
Those days, sadly, are gone.
But back then, there was a redesign of the paper which left a small space empty on the front of the Living
section and an artist who could think in a narrow space was needed.
I got called and Mr. Portland was born.
